Abstract

The article explores data from the Brazilian National Information System on the Solidarity Economy and from sources related to similar initiatives, such as associations and cooperatives, with two objectives: to develop a typology of solidarity economic enterprises in Brazil, with five models, and to apply a gradualist approach to them, aiming to position such enterprises in relation to the reference concept that locates them in the Solidarity Economy, and to emphasize their similarities and contrasts with organizations belonging to nearby social fields. It is concluded that the Solidarity Economy transcends the limits of national surveys carried out in Brazil, which in turn indicate how solidarity historically characterizes the way of life and the economy of popular sectors, which are once again reactivated by the undertakings and mobilizations promoted in the last decades by the Solidarity economy.
