Abstract

The covid-19 pandemic has generated many social and economic problems, which, in jobs already marked by precariousness, have been more serious, as in the case of drivers working on transport platforms. The survey, carried out in Juiz de Fora, a medium-sized Brazilian city, identified the impacts for these workers, using applied questionnaires, interviews with leaders and follow-up in WhatsApp groups. Structural problems, such as long hours, no social protection, lack of transparency and dialog with the platforms and low profitability, made worse by punctual difficulties, are explained here. Future developments are also highlighted, since this situation tends to reinforce job insecurity, which also occurs on other digital work platforms for different sectors and cities. This underlines how urgent it is for these workers to be covered by employment law.
