About the Journal
The magazine Acta Semiótica et Lingvistica was created by Prof. Dr. Cidmar Teodoro Pais, from USP in São Paulo, in the midst of activities developed by the Brazilian Society of Linguistics Teachers - SBPL, with the purpose of establishing cultural exchanges with several institutions in Brazil and abroad. Renowned writers used it as a support of written disclosure of his works, such as Greimas, Courtès, Rastier, Sebiok, Eric Landowishv, among others. Even during the severe period of illness he faced, Prof. Cidmar, meeting regularly with the organizers, maintained the publication's semiannual periodicity. One day, while passing through São Paulo, I went to visit him and he told me about the difficulties he was facing to maintain it. I pledged to help him and, after his death (which happened five months later), I took over the editorial board at the request of his wife, Prof. Drª Maria Aparecida Barbosa. Today the magazine has the support of the Graduate Program in Letters at UFPB, to which I am linked as a teacher and supervisor in the areas of sociosemiotics and Semiotics of Cultures, applied to the exploration of popular expression text. In this way, our network of relationships was expanded, in addition to the fact that many of the initial writers were maintained. Marieta Prata de Lima Dias, from the Federal University of Mato Grosso (member of the editorial board and organizer of the last two written volumes) and other members of the editorial board, such as Maria Aparecida Barbosa, François Rastier, Socorro Aragão, Darcilia Simões, Margarida Andrade, Maria Eugênia Poulet, Maria da Conceição Coelho, etc. We hope to count on the collaboration of all those who are interested in the topics discussed here.
