Abstract

The aim of this work is to analyze, based on Peircean’s semiotic theory, the woodcut illustrating the popular booklet printed, inserted in traditional Cordel Literature, called: The girl who was dancing with Satan in hell, both by the woodcutter and popular poet José Costa Leite. Considering this unique authorship, take for analysis a woodcut with its symbolic potential, based on the context of poetic narrative brochure, since it involves aspects of popular wisdom already publicly consecrated. For this analysis, we used the following authors: Peirce, Nöth, Santaella and others.
