Abstract

Stylistic-semiotic analysis of the Guimarães Rosa’s lexical choice in Tresaventura aiming at demonstrating that the vocabulary enabled in the text, as from the author’s choices, produces the iconicity. Hence, this iconicity will guide the reader towards the construction of mental images that may represent the world narrated or induce the interpreter to infer or build ‘implicatures’. Peirce’s semiotics, Halliday’s systemic functional grammar and Pottier’s componential ‘semantics are the theoretical foundations of the analysis proposed herein. The understanding of literary text is shown as a rich form of linguistic training because it operates throughout the capabilities and potentials of the system: the Portuguese language. The path of the character Dja Iaí allows the reader to discuss the linguistics structure in pancronic perspective and to deduct communication assumptions that lead to the construction of different semiotic worlds, depending solely upon the perspective presented by both by and the actor, from which the semantic fields that outline the theme will emerge.
