Abstract

This text aims at demonstrating how José Alberto Kaplan´s Sonata for Piano (1991) is a meaningful addition to the repertoire of piano sonatas written during the last three centuries. Through the identification of compositional and pianistic elements resulting into the fabric of its four movements, the author offers suggestions concerning possible resolutions of musical gestures in relationship to rhythmic and phrasal considerations.
