Abstract

This work frames a set of spaces dedicated to the culture of the book and of the library in the city of Jaraguá do Sul, from 1930 to 1950. Such spaces have constituted the first bases for the creation, in 1970, of the city’s public library. The data were obtained from a doctoral dissertation, which sought to investigate a contemporary public library in the lights of some fundamentals of Cultural History, more specifically, it sought to understand, from a Micro-History approach, the constitution of the municipal library of Jaraguá do Sul. The study considers that a community’s attempt to constitute its own reading spaces vary in time.
