The historiographical text comments on the trajectory of director Antunes Filho from the premiere of Macunaíma, in 1978, until the production of A Pedra do Reino, in 2019. The staging of Mário de Andrade’s rhapsody defines the experimental turn of one of the greatest Brazilian directors and the formation of the Macunaíma Group. The collective announces principles of spectacular and dramaturgical construction updated, a decade later, in the collaborative processes of group theater. During the director’s career, the scenic formalization is based on choral performance and tragedy is one of the dominant focuses, alternating with features of Brazilian culture coexisting with essentiality and abstraction.
