Abstract

At the beginning of the 21st century, Brazilian diplomacy became one of the main voices in international debates on the social development of family agriculture and on the fight against hunger. Since 2016, however, the coalition that assumed the government has been reversing the foundations of that project in favor of a subaltern insertion of Brazil in International Relations, as a mere agribusiness power. This article analyzes the repercussions of the agrogolpe promoted by Michel Temer and his associates in the scope of foreign policy. It is concluded that the agri-food agenda built in previous governments was severely depleted and that actors linked to family agriculture were removed from the process of foreign policy formulation. This retrocession evidences the suppression of the project of insertion of Brazil as an emerging agrifood power in the center of International Relations.
