This article aims to discuss scientific knowledge management practices in research groups at a Public University in the State of Bahia, from the perspective of their leaders. To this end, it establishes the Knowledge Management model of Takeuchi and Nonaka (2008) as a theoretical-analytical foundation to understand the practices of Socialization, Externalization, Sharing and Internalization, and other theorists who discuss knowledge management and scientific knowledge management . Methodologically, it is a social, exploratory and descriptive research, with interviews with group leaders, categorization and analysis based on the defined model. Among the conclusions, we point out that socialization is a more difficult modality to be visualized in groups; there is greater solidity in externalization; there is a need for institutional support that favors sharing; internalization is more sensitively affected as a result of the quality of other knowledge conversion modalities and the ontological and epistemological dimensions, predicted by the model, are related in a complex and dynamic way.
