Abstract

This work analyzes the sociolinguistic use of the phonemes /λ, l/, this in a position of syllable coda, as in: /λ/ ~ [l, j, Ø] e /l/ ~ [w, ł, j, Ø]. The theoretical-methodological contributions that base the analysis come from the Sociolinguistic of laboviana inspiration (LABOV, 1963, 1966, 2008 [1972]). For that, a corpus it is equally and socially stratified by sex, age and level of educational, and with 36 informant’s paraiban, resident and from the community of speech studied. The occurrences found were submitted to the Goldvarb X statistical package (SANKOFF; TAGLIAMONTE & SMITH, 2005). The first results indicate that there is a process of sociolinguistic variation in the community of speech studied, conditioned by linguistic and social factors, such as the phonological contexts (precedent and following), the tone, the class of the word and number of syllables and the level of educational of the speakers.
