The aim of this study is to investigate the phonotactic patterns of a pair of dizygotic twins in order to verify whether there is similarity or variability among the phonotactic development of these children in their first words data. For that purpose, we use the theoretical support of Complex Adaptive Systems (THELEN; SMITH, 1994) and the Sonority Syllable Model (BASBØLL, 2005). We analyzed data from two dizygotic female twins developing Brazilian Portuguese, during the period of 1 to 2 years of age. The results show that, despite having used similar phonotactic patterns, the children presented different overall number of productions, indicating a variability in the phonotactic development of dizygotic twins.
