Abstract

Metaphor represents an unconscious and essential phenomenon for human reasoning. Metaphorical language indicates the organization of concepts. In this way, conceptual metaphors permeate all aspects of everyday life, including structuring our concept of morality. It is from the conceptual metaphor NATION / HOMELAND IS FAMILY that we apply the family moral system to political morality. In this way, different family moral systems will result in specific political morality systems, defining progressive or conservative political orientations. Thus, this work aims to study the model of political morality present in the speeches of Jair Bolsonaro. Therefore, this work had as theoretical reference the studies of Lakoff and Johnson (1980) and Kovecses (2002) on the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, as well as Lakoff (2016) in his theory on political morality. Our hypothesis is that the speeches of Jair Bolsonaro would reveal the model of political morals of the severe father. From the qualitative-interpretative analysis of six speeches recorded between 2010 and 2020, we observed the systematic presence of the metaphors of the Strength Group, a priority set in the moral system of the strict father, corroborating our hypothesis, and placing the morality of Jair Bolsonaro within the strict father's morality system.
