Abstract

Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and clinical profile of cases of patients diagnosed and hospitalized with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Method: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out in a reference hospital in pulmonology in the state of Pernambuco in 2018.70 patients participated in the study, using their own sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, association between variables and comparison of percentage proportions, using the Statistical Package for Social Science software and the Chi-square test. Results: A predominant male profile is evident, aged ≥ 60 years and with low education. Most have a recent diagnosis, are ex-smokers, with a high smoking burden, using Formoterol / Budesonide and Tiotropium Bromide. Understanding the sociodemographic and clinical profile of patients diagnosed with COPD at the hospital level is of paramount importance for planning actions aimed at reducing the severity of the disease, stimulating treatment and behavioral changes in life. Conclusion: it is concluded that qualifying the multidisciplinary practices of the team that provides assistance favors better clinical, functional and quality of life conditions. Although it is characterized as a preventable and treatable respiratory disease, it is still a relevant public health problem, with worldwide prominence.
