Resumo

This study represents the collected demographic data on a population of Bradypus variegatus Schinz, 1825, existing in Pernambuco State, Northeast of Brazil. Although subjectively, it could be analyzed the conditions of these animals in six fragments of the Atlantic rainforest in the north coast of Itamaracá Island. In a 172.5 hectares area it was registered a density of 0.5 individuals/hectare, and a 2 kg/hectare biomass. It is observed a relative density among the sub areas focused in this study, showing that these animals possible utilize the available habitat differentially, especially in relation to the existing plants species, which are explored as food source, or by the segregations pf portions of habitats more or less favored by other extrinsic factors.
