ABSTRACT

Opisthacanthus is the only genus of Scorpionidae represented in the neotropical region and until now 3 species were known: Opisthacanthus lepturus (Palisot de Beauvois), 1805 from Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Haiti, Ophisthacanthus cayaporum Vellard, 1932 from Brazil and Opisthacanthus weyrauchi Mello-Leitao & Araujo-Felo, 1948 from Peru.

In this article two new species are described for this genus: Opisthacanthus valerioi from Cocos Island, Costa Rica and Opisthacanthus heurtaultae from Kourou in French Guyana.

RESUMO

Opisthacanthus é o único gênero da família Scorpionidae repretentado na região neotropical, e até o presente memento se conheciam unicamente 3 espécies: Opisthacanthus lepturus (Palisot de Beauvois), 1805 para a Venezuela, Colombia, Panama e Haiti, Opisthacanthus cayaporum Vellard, 1932 do Brasil e Opisthacanthus weyrauchi Mello-Leitão & Araujo-Feio, 1948 do Peru.

Neste trabalho duas novas espécies são descritas para o referido gênero: Opisthacanthus valerioi da "Isla del Coco', Costa Rica e Opisthacanthus heurtaultae de Kourou, Guiana Francesa.
