RESULTADOS PRELIMINARES DE REAVALIAÇÃO DOAS RAÇAS DO MACACO-PREGO <I>Cebus apella</i> (PRIMATES: CEBIDAE)

Abstract

Filteen morphological characters were examined in skins and skulls of Cebus apella Irom 163 ocalities. This sample covers most of ihe geographic distribution ot the species. Variation within and between ocalities was studied. The analysis of qualitative data was made independently ol that ot quantitative data; results of both analyses agee in identifying at least five geographic areas that may be interpreted as corresponding to different subspecies. This paper summarizes a study reported in greater detail in TORRES DE ASSUNPQAO (1983). Results here presented are preliminary: a new avaliation is being made based on an increased sample of 1 250 specimens from 230 localities.
