Resumo

Effects of sound pollution on the reproductive behavior of the canary (Serinus canarius L., Passeriformes: Fringillidade). This work was carried out from March to November of 1999, in the city of Recife, PE. The main objective was to evaluate the effects of sound pollution on the reproductive behavior of the canary (Serinus canarius L.), through acoustic disorders that this atmosphere can provide it. There were used six birds, acquired from Canaril Red Bird, with three males and three females, then they were divided into three couples, forming three groups (A, B and C). All the groups were submitted to the two types of atmospheres, being one with intermittent environmental noises. In appropriate atmosphere, the groups A, B, and C presented 100% of nestling productivity. In inadequate atmosphere, to the groups A and B, that index was null while the group C presented an index of 20%. The group A, presented agitation and difficulty of marriage and it did not happen posture. It was evidenced in this work that in inadequate atmosphere, the index of productivity of eggs was less and the index of appearance was smaller significant, compared to the appropriate atmosphere; the constant exists and returns to the nest, is the stereotyped behavior of the group A, caused by disorders acoustics, because, in calm atmosphere it is calmed, there were not those behaviors; the males, didn’t present differentiated behavior; the installation of a canaril in atmosphere with sound pollution, whose average is of 81.8db, could result in a low producyivity index, and therefore to be economically unlivable.
