Abstract

This article is the result of extension actions promoted by the State University of Minas Gerais, in partnership with civil society organizations and public managers targeting the audience of recyclable waste pickers’ organizations. We prioritize analyzing situations of social deprotection of women and their struggles for socio-productive inclusion and access to rights. Monitoring of waste pickers' organizations was carried out in the period between 2011 until 2017, based on participatory and action-research methodologies, with the following methodological strategies being adopted: participation in meetings, direct observation in the workspaces, field diary with record information and participant observation. The results show the solidarity economy as an important element for the role of women in their organizational processes in the face of the absence of the State and emancipatory public policies.
