Abstract

This work aims to analyze the evolution of the inequality of income distribution by sex in the state of São Paulo between the years 2005 and 2015, based on the decomposition of Oaxaca-Blinder (1973) and the decomposition in time proposed by Smith and Welch (1989) that identifies the role of productive attributes in this evolution. The data used were taken from the Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (PNAD) for the respective years. The research points out that between the years studied there was a reduction in wage inequality between the sexes, still remaining a component associated with productive factors. The unexplained portion, associated with omitted or unmeasurable factors and attributes, as well as pure discrimination, represents the largest portion of the unexplained differential. The model's temporal analysis indicates that the main variables that contributed to the wage reduction in the period were: education, public administration sector, color and hours worked.
