yndemical aspects on Mental health and Covid-19 in the context of the Tupinambá resistence - Olivença (Bahia)
Abstract
The article analyzes syndemic aspects that converges Covid-19 pandemic, mental health, and social issues with the context of the struggle of the Tupinambá de Olivença/BA. Such people inhabit a territory not demarcated and their presence in the region is crossed by the tension between ethnic erasure (and forms of structural violence) and identity re-affirmation. In this context, mental health issues (depression, suicide attempts, among others) emerge. This situation is exacerbated when Covid-19 arrives among the Tupinambá, added to a situation of structural violence, non-recognition, social and economic difficulties and previously health and mental health issues. To face it, the Tupinambá activate alliances and demand services from the State, but they also activate their ways of self-protection and care, taking measures based on the idea of Tupinambá identity and territory, central to access to public health services and to sanitary measures during the pandemic.
