The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's 2021 report found, according to data from the Programme for International Student Assessment, that young people do not know how to distinguish fact from opinion. This finding is worrying because it goes in the opposite way of one of the principles of the information society, which is the development of informational competencies from the activities of information literacy, including in school libraries. The general objective of this study was to describe the pattern of informational behavior of basic education students of a private high school in the Federal District, based on their relationship with information for the distinction between fact and opinion. The mixed methodological approach is a descriptive type. The research was carried out with students from the first year of high school, with adoption of a questionnaire as an instrument of data collection. The results indicated that the investigated public knows how to differentiate fact from opinion, however, they disregard the library service to support teaching and learning process, especially in the development of informational skills.
