Abstract

Reading mediation exercised through the use of animals to help children develop a greater willingness to read offered in libraries, schools, day care centers, hospitals, animal shelters, farms, sanctuaries, among others, can be a reality. This research aimed to analyze in the scientific literature the existence and/or practice of encouraging reading with animals performed by professional librarians. The sources of information researched were: Capes Journal Portal, Brapci, BDTD, Academic Google, Google, newspapers and blogs. It presents several national and international animal-assisted reading experiences. The main authors studied were Gee (2012, 2017) and Calado (2016). Thus, it was found through the literature that mediation made with animals to aid reading is beneficial and practicable for children. However, in the researched databases it was little disseminated through the scientific literature in the area of ​​International Library Science. Regarding the national results were null, only news in newspapers and blogs about reported cases of Animal-Assisted Mediation practices - MAA.
