The objective of this article is to identify and understand some possible stressors associated with burnout syndrome as the particular result of chronic stress at work in librarians working in university libraries. More specifically, the aim was to verify to what extent such stressors can affect the work practices of librarians, and, to suggest preventive measures and recommendations. The research was conducted as a study with a qualitative, deductive and exploratory approach, with a time frame from 2013 to 2023; data were obtained using a bibliographic review. In total, 14 scientific articles relevant to the proposed study were selected. To extract, analyze and discuss the results of the selected articles, the Content Analysis method was used. As a result, a table was created containing 10 variables with recommended actions that can be applied in the context of university libraries. In this way, it is possible for both librarians and organization managers to understand and manage the stressors related to professional burnout in the workplace.
