Abstract

From the perspective of the cultural journalism and from the studies ofjournalistic genres that focus in the dichotomy between information and opinion, this paper tries to understand how these two narratives instancescan be found simultaneously in the film criticism. Mostknown as anopinionated genre, the critic text took to itself the function not only of judging any piece of art but also to serve as a source of information and knowledge to the public who readsit. In order to make such observation in the scope of the film criticism, we will use as an object of analysis the texts of thecriticfrom BahiaWalter da Silveira, essayist, professor, and cultural agitator, who wrote for various newspapers of the state between the decades of 1930s and 1960s.
