Inclusive communication in the production of “autistic headcanons” of pop culture characters in Tumblr fandoms

This paper explores through an initial netnography the online movement called Actually Autistic, that produces headcanons fanworks (fan theories) about characters from fictional worlds that are not described as autistic, but that fans understand they could be a representation because of their characteristics. These discussions are made by autistic fans in social networks, but they are mainly concentrated on Tumblr. The first observations described here consider that autistic persons are commonly known by their lack of interaction and sociability and with this movement they gain spaces for representation inside Tumblr. Inclusive communication is therefore an important key for this movement made for and by them starting from their pop culture preferences. Our initial results show that those actions are important for their debate on autistic identities
