the impact of the pandemic on women's scientific production in communication' field

Abstract

The article discusses how productivity criteria are crossed by gender inequalities in the scientific field of Communication and how this impact differentially men and women researchers in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is understood that the configuration of academic productivism reflects the meritocratic and neoliberal logic that has been consolidated in academia in recent decades, with the context of Communication still unexplored. Methodologically, the study carries out a bibliometric review of the reference Postgraduate Programs in Communication in the country, which obtained a score of 6 or 7 in the four-year Capes evaluation (2013-2016). The data reflects the portrait of a period in a dynamic scenario and shows the persistence of gender asymmetries and the need to take up the debate around the criteria of excellence and productivity.

Laura Wottrich, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)

Researcher at the Postgraduate Program in Communication (PPGCOM) and professor linked to the Department of Communication at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).

Milena Freire de Oliveira-Cruz, Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM)

Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences and the Postgraduate Program in Communication (POSCOM/UFSM), coordinator of the Communication, Gender and Inequalities Research Group (UFSM/CNPq), Ambassador of the Parent in Science Movement and member of the Equality Committee of Gender at UFSM. He is interested in themes related to communication, gender, social class, reception studies and consumption studies.

Antônia Tâmara Haag, Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM)

Master's student in the Postgraduate Program in Communication at the Federal University of Santa Maria (POSCOM/UFSM), with a CAPES/DS scholarship. Graduated in Social Communication - Editorial Production (2018-2021) at the same institution. He was a PIBIC/CNPQ fellow (2021-2022) and a PET/FNDE fellow of the Applied Social Sciences Tutorial Education Program (PET CiSA/UFSM) from 2019 to 2021. He is interested in the uses of communication for citizenship and work relations, as well as in gender relations in the field of communication.

Nathalia Da Silva Brum, Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM)

Social Communication Student - Journalism (UFSM). Member of the Communication, Gender and Inequalities research group (UFSM/CNPq) where she was a PIBIC/CNPq Fellow (2021-2022). She is interested in gender relations in the field of communication and empowerment processes.
