Abstract

It’s discussed the comparison between the proposal of a sustainable society by deep ecology and the sustainable development model from the 1987’s Our Common Future report. It thus explores the limits of the latter paradigm and how it is subjected to the values and assumptions harmful to the social, economic and environmental means promoted by industrial society, and thus, finally, expose the perspective of deep ecology. Thus, it presents the verification of the precepts and values of this holistic and ecocentric ecophilosophy in building a society integrated and in harmony with the environment, as opposed to mechanistic and anthropocentric thinking of industrial society, and therefore, sustainable development.
