Abstract

The book "Estado de derecho, derechos humanos y democracia" originates from a doctoral dissertation written in Madrid by Gilmer Alarcón Requejo. Its starting theme is the political thought of Elías Díaz in the book "Estado de derecho y sociedad democrática" (1966), condemned by the Franco regime. This book and the following works of Elías Díaz were important not only for the theoretical discussion about democracy, but also for preparing the Spanish transition to democracy after Franco. The Author takes into consideration also the historical events accompanying Elías Díaz's publications and compares his ideas with the ones of the most relevant Spanish contemporary authors.
