SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE ABOUT AGING: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
Abstract
Objective: To characterize the scientific production and analyze the contribution of studies addressing aging published in online journals in the field of health. Material and Methods: This is an integrative literature review. For identification of studies, we carried out searches in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). The following inclusion criteria were established in order to guide the searches: context related to aging; available in full, in Portuguese, English or Spanish; published between 2002 and 2012; modality: scientific article. Of 586 publications, 40 composed the study sample. Results: This study allowed the construction of six categories: issues about aging; the elderly before the aging process; aging with dependency; aging and gender; physical activity and aging; and diseases associated with aging. Conclusion: The studies published by health researchers allowed us to understand situations involving aging, since aspects of the aging process until issues of health promotion aimed at a healthy aging.
