Between consensus and conflict

Abstract

Purpose: This essay aims to analyze how the dimensions of consensus and conflict are treated in the literature on collaborative innovation. Approach: Narrative literature review oriented towards a preliminary theoretical investigation. Next, topics related to the dimensions of consensus and conflict and the propositions are explored constructive management of differences, integrative and flexible leadership, and institutional design. Finally, the methodological and empirical perspectives of this field of study are presented, with the suggestion of the environmental theme, specifically the management of water resources, as a beneficial research area for the study of collaborative innovation. Results: After analyzing, it concludes with the concept of approximate consensus based on shared understandings and the substitution of destructive conflict for constructive conflict in fostering collaborative innovation. Contributions: The main contributions are the systematization of consensus and conflict in the theoretical framework of collaborative innovation and the exposition of illustrative cases, advocating the strengthening of this field of research in Brazil due to the vast environmental regime in the country and its regional particularities.
