Abstract

In this article, we will address the different faces of gender inequalities present in the Information Technology (IT) sector. Our starting point was a qualitative research carried out through semi-structured interviews with workers in the state of São Paulo, whose objective was to understand the working conditions in the IT area and its impacts for their professionals. The gender issue, however, was imposed during the field, when we identified that women are absolutely minority in the sector and they face a series of difficulties to enter and remain in the activity. We will discuss how women are constantly “pushed” out of careers in the IT area, a process that started in childhood and that is reproduced during school education and in the disputes for allocation in the job market and professional advancement.
