Organization and preservation of a permanent archive through the lens of Archivology
Abstract
Permanent archives are essential to safeguard documents that contain relevant information, whether for regional culture, social memory or other factors. When some regional personalities have valuable collections and these are acquired by an institution, it is necessary to outline methods of organization, preservation and conservation. In this perspective, this bibliographical research aims to present the arrangement framework of the Átila Almeida Personal Archive as an instrument of organization in a permanent archive, highlighting the basic actions of preservation and conservation as fundamental areas to keep history, memory, culture and literature accessible. through the documents. Therefore, we review the evolution of archivology as a scientific field, bring the definitions and characteristics of a personal archive and a permanent archive, also highlighting the concepts of preservation, conservation and restoration and we emphasize some basic techniques. In addition, we dedicate a chapter to highlight Átila Almeida's Raras Works Library and Átila Almeida's Personal Archive, as well as the objective of this study: the arrangement chart of one of its completed archival funds. Finally, we emphasize the importance of institutions recognizing the preciousness of permanent archives and suggest the elaboration of a preventive conservation policy.
