Abstract

The useful information helps to solve problems that emerge daily in peoples’ lives and may contribute to increase knowledge and better the quality of living in the elder, a segregated segment of society. This work is a report on the elderly’s useful informational necessity carried on with the group named “Alegria de Viver”, SESC-PB. The methodology used included bibliographical research and a field research. The results pointed that the majority of the group is female, aged from 60 to 70, widowers, housewives, concluded the secondary school and has their own cars. Their informational necessities are about health, leisure and education, though they face some barriers as to look up for information due to the low salary they receive for their retirement. The ways and sources which are mostly used are television, radio and informal conversations. It was concluded that the useful information for the elderly is that from its daily routine and which are connected to their worries with health and their aspirations for leisure and education.
