Abstract

Today, the concern with ethical principles and moral values makes us reflect on a society with social responsibility activities. This concept was distributed after the expansion of globalisation: societies, in all undertakings, in institiuições, in libraries with employees, customers, and all that relate to any of these institutions. This concept is the basis of research that aims to identify and analyse the procedures of social and ethical responsibility of professional worker. Takes a qualitative approach, developed in field research, carried out through a semi-structured questionnaire, applied in seven libraries of private institutions of higher education (IES) working with ethics and social responsibility in the city of João Pessoa/Pb. Therefore, the are seven libraries’ coordinators. Collected and analyzed data suggest that professionals must expand their knowledge to their responsibilities, as well as initiatives and attitudes in their actions. The results show an outdated view for professionals, such as the institutions to which they belong, about attitudes of social and ethical responsibility. In fact, they embrace ways related to paternalism, philanthropy – first concept perceived as social responsibility.
