Public libraries and service do elderly People
dialogues under construction
Abstract
The care of the elderly through libraries is the theme of this article, which aims to reflect on the importance of offering programs and services dedicated to the elderly, as well as the identification of municipal libraries in Rio de Janeiro and actions by they undertake to serve this segment of the population. Considering the proposed objective, the research was defined as exploratory and adopted bibliographic research with specialized information sources to allow researchers to understand the theme. The results obtained, presented in the body of the text through a literature review and descriptive tables, reaffirm the importance of the development of professional practices aimed at the elderly, understanding these subjects as fundamental citizens to the development of communities and the nation. In order for exchanges between generations to take place, it is essential to act in instances that not only welcome, but also enable the construction of bonds between the subjects and between them and the community. Here, libraries are identified and understood as necessary to broaden the debate on care for the elderly, a phenomenon that goes beyond local dimensions, as it relates to an international movement concerned with accentuating the population aging process. In this sense, the library, through its resources and services, can contribute to this movement of integration between different population groups based on information, knowledge and culture.Downloads
