FROM THE PRINTED BOOK UP TO E-BOOK: the paradigm of the support in the Electronic Library

Abstract

Discusses the New Technologies of Information and Communication, specifically in what refers to the controversy concerning the printed and digital information, as well as its influence in the revolution of the electronic libraries and in the librarian´s new role. Presents the evolution of the supports of information, leaving from the papyrus to electronic book (e-book) and focuses the dichotomy printed book versus digital one. The methodology is characterized by a qualitative research, using as data collect instrument the no-participant observation and the questionnaire.The research field defined involves an electronic atmosphere, composed by the sites ebookcult, hotbook and parnanet. The analysis consists of these electronic libraries and in the retrieval of the more significant e-books of each site in the area of Brazilian Literature. As practical result, we have the formation of an e-books catalog specialized in the literature area, available for download free of charge. Like other vehicles of culture expression, printed and digital information should live together harmoniously as different and complemental options, forming a hybrid library.
