Abstract

The object of this article is the cultural and religious manifestation of Pau da Bandeira held in honor of Santo Antônio, which takes place in the city of Barbalha, in the interior of the state of Ceará, located in northeastern Brazil. The investigation takes place through the landmark of registration of the celebration as national intangible cultural heritage through IPHAN in 2015. It addresses the historical process and conceptions about Museology as an area of knowledge, relating it to cultural heritage. It also considers the concepts of preservation and national public policies for safeguarding intangible cultural assets. It establishes bibliographic and descriptive research as a methodology, and of a qualitative nature. As an instrument for data collection, interviews were used. For analysis and interpretation of the data collected in the interviews, we used content analysis. This work aims to: investigate which opinions, perspectives and changes perceived by the community that produces and participates in the Festa do Pau da Bandeira. The results of the analysis show that the interviewees observed the intensification of a series of characteristics of the celebration after its patrimonialization, highlighting the increased visibility and repercussion of the party within and outside the community that produces it, which contributed to greater success at local, regional and even national level. The institutionalization of the celebration by the recognized national body also led to an increase in academic events and research.
