COVID-19 and its implications on individuals with comorbidities

Abstract

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has drastically affected a large part of global society. The public most vulnerable to serious health complications, due to the disease, is the one with one or more comorbidities. This research aims to analyze the national and international scientific productivity of scientific articles on COVID-19 and its impact on individuals with comorbidities, especially diabetes and obesity, indexed in the Web of Science, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences. The quantitative and qualitative research is based on theories, concepts and methods belonging to the areas of Knowledge Organization, Bibliometrics and Scientometrics; and is inserted in the empirical field of Health Sciences. An analysis of the productivity elite, the most cited articles and the elite of the defined elite was carried out. In the results, elite members were identified in the authorship of the articles with the highest citation indexes, and the internationalization network with emphasis on Columbia University, with the largest number of authors of the elite of elite affiliated, and the University of Lille, the only one that presents collaboration with a Brazilian institution, the Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz. The objectives established in the research were achieved by the application of the proposed methodology, revealing the importance of publishing, and disseminating scientific research to enhance reflections, analysis and advancement of knowledge about phenomena present in various sociocultural aspects and areas of knowledge.
