Informational chaos in times of a pandemic
initiatives of libraries and librarians to combat misinformation and fake news in media and social networks

The creation, propagation and sharing of fake news serve as incentive towards informational chaos and denialism inside the contemporary society. The impact provoked by misinformation and fake news in informal means of communication is analyzed in intention of how it can be potentially inhibited by the actions of librarians and libraries. The research is defined as bibliographic research, exploratory and descriptive, going through themes such as fake news, misinformation, information bubbles specially between medias e social networks, information literacy, libraries, and librarians. Concerning Librarianship and Information Science, some initiatives and actions developed by libraries and librarians dedicated to inhibiting misinformation and fake news in media and social networks are presented. In conclusion, although there are several institutional initiatives worried about combat misinformation and fake news, these actions are still not cemented within other services offered by libraries and librarians.
