NEW READING WOMEN: what are the teens reading?

Abstract

This research has as objective to characterize the reading practices of female teenagers, students from public and private schools in Rio Grande, with the main focus characterize this readership and to observe possible trends in this reading group. Thus, this study analyzed 221 questionnaires completed by young women aged between 14 and 19 years, high school students from public and private schools in Rio Grande-RS in the years 2008 and 2009. In this survey we noticed that the young female audience has a regular habit of reading, we also identified the favorite subjects of reading in this age group and the meanings that young people bring to the act of reading. We believe that studies aimed at characterizing practices can also read as a reference guide activities and reading incentives that public libraries, as well as we draw possible parallels between the present and past events.
