STUDY OF CONSTRUCTION AND APPLICATION OF A THESAURUS IN THE RECOVERY OF THE INFORMATION FROM THESES E DISSERTATIONS OF THE GRADUATE PROGRAM IN URBAN DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Information Retrieval Systems (IRS) have difficulties in retrieving relevant information that meet the informational needs of their users. In this context, the thesaurus can serve as a tool that will assist in the organization, representation and retrieval of information. This article aims to present the development process and the main results observed in the planning and development stages of a thesaurus through a Case Study. The methodology consists of a literature review, choice of the graduate program in Urban Development, a study on the architectural concepts from the field of urbanism, in addition to a survey of the keywords found in the theses and dissertations of BDTD-UFPE that were observed. The results indicate that the construction of a thesaurus does not end in its preparation, there must be a constant monitoring from a professional responsible for incorporating new terms.
