ACCESS AND USE OF SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION FROM THE JOURNAL ACTA AMAZONICA (1971-1978) IN THE LIBRARY OF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH IN THE AMAZON - INPA
Abstract
Acta Amazonica is available in print (1971-1978) and from 1979 until the present is also in electronic format. We evaluated the frequency of use and satisfaction of the journal in print versus journal in electronic format. The activities began with a bibliographic survey. The research methodology is qualitative and quantitative. The survey instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. We used data collected from a sample of 32 questionnaires applied in the three campuses of INPA and answered by the research subjects, students from the eight courses of PPG / INPA. These data were entered into a database (Access 7.0), and exported to a spreadsheet (Excel 7.0), where the analysis of closed questions was put into percentage and graphics, and the open questions related to the suggestion were put into categories by means of content analysis. It was found the low frequency of the Graduate students of the Institute in the Library and the use of only one of the services it offers: the query to the bibliographic database; Greater use of information in scientific journals, although they do not fully meet the user needs; In the use of databases, the search is higher in those which give access to different types of journals, the study highlights the importance of capacity building for access and use of databases and the preference for a user-friendly interface at the time of the search; The frequency in the query to the journal Acta Amazonica in both print and electronic formats is occasional.Downloads
