Relevance and Topicality in O Estado de S. Paulo's speech on the Canudos War

Abstract

This article is part of a research that aims to explain the production of senses of the journalistic discourse about historical events, in the social context of valorization of the present time. From theoretical readings about the relevance and the present time modern press, it will be evaluated how these concepts are mobilized in the construction of news that have as “news peg” one detached event of the past. For this, from the discourse analysis of French line, texts of the periodical O Estado de São Paulo publisheds in the eve of the centenarian of the Canudos War will be analyzed.
