Nowadays it is impossible to think about a major sports event without the media presence. So, it is noteworthy that “what” and “how” media coverage is done, and how they portrayed athletes in each sport, can be issues that create barriers. The position of elements on a newspaper, its shape and size are fundamental to determine the relationship between author, text and readers. It is from this space of reading that authors present their alternatives to the way people will read it, and the meaning of the text. In this sense, this paper aims to highlight the importance of the material structure of newspaper’s pages and present how news about Paralympic athletes were constructed during the 2012 Games, as well as give athletes a voice about this coverage.
