Abstract

O texto desta tradução corresponde à leitura proferida por Bertrand Russell na Universidade de Oxford em 1922 sob o título "Vagueness". Nele, o autor apresenta sua concepção acerca da relação entre a linguagem e o mundo desde o ponto de vista da vagueza. Sua tese principal é a de que a atribuição das propriedades da linguagem (especialmente, a vagueza) às coisas consiste em uma falácia, pois, embora toda a linguagem natural seja vaga, isso não pode ser aplicado, mesmo que minimamente, às coisas. De maneira implícita, Russell ataca, neste texto, a concepção apresentada por Wittgenstein no Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, segundo a qual os limites do mundo e os da linguagem coincidem.

Possui Doutorado em Filosofia pela Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), Mestrado e Graduação em Filosofia pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM). Foi Professor Substituto do Departamento de Filosofia da UFBA. Atualmente, é bolsista CAPES/COFECUB em estágio pós-doutoral junto ao Institut d'Histoire et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Techniques da Université Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne.
