Abstract

I propose in this article an analysis about the notion of insubmission in Leon Tolstoy that compose the clash between the State and the civil society. Therefore, fundamental questions arise: would it be necessary the maintenance of a structure based exclusively in the use of force? Is the use of violence a legitimate instrument of the civil society in the pursuit of self-management? Both the questions are answered negatively by Tolstoy and, for that reason, it is an invitation to think about our contemporary reactions on the State, the violence and the submission.
