Abstract

The purpose of this article is to answer the question: what is philosophy? To solve this question, we consider the theme of the aesthetics of existence and the role of the sensitive in becoming (of) self. We use as a basis for our reflections, the perspective of asceticism and etho-poietics of Michel Foucault. Our intention is to show that philosophy is done through the radical attitude of questioning. Following this path, philosophy will never be a set of ready-made truths, but truths to be constructed dialectically based on the logos of conceptual activity and not on the doxa of a purely rhetorical posture. The horizon is that of a theoretical practice that aims to break the perspective of speculative solitude and seek to get in touch with the world beyond its idealized form or the cynic view of rhetoric. In this way, the philosopher practices the art of living, thinking and speaking that leads him to change his way of being in the world, of knowing and acting with others. This practice makes the philosopher place his existence in the courage to seek the truth as the expression of finding the best possible way of life for himself and for others.
