Abstract

Based on the theoretical-methodological framework of the field of Language Policies, particularly with regard to Language Management (SPOLSKY, 2009) and the research by Gabas (2016) on Family Language Policy, this study aims to analyze language management elaborated and implemented in a home Norwegian between mother and daughter. To this end, data collection took place through a semi-structured interview with a Brazilian woman, living in Oslo, Norway, whose daughter, at the time of the interview as a child, had been born and lived in the Scandinavian country. The languages managed by the Brazilian mother, especially in terms of learning and use, are Portuguese, Norwegian and English. In the analyzes and final considerations, it is clear that the mother establishes a relationship of authority/organization/linguistic management with her daughter while at the same time reconciling the child's personal and cultural interests with economic aspects, the latter arising particularly from mother’s linguistic desires and ideologies.
