SUCCESSFUL ACTIONS TO COMBATEAND CONTROL DENGUE: INNOVATIVE PROPOSALS AS A PROMOTIONAL MODEL

Abstract

Introduction: Dengue is considered one of the main public health issuesnot only in Brazil but alsoworldwide. This study highlightsa series of effective actionsto establish strategies that circumvent the difficulties encountered, since dengueis a problem that deserves global action. Objective: To explainsuccessful methods that have beenusedto combat and prevent denguebased oncase studies and reports fromselected journals. Material and Methods: This wasa literature reviewof research articles published in the years 2004 to 2012 in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), as well as books and papers presented in annals of important events in the field, using thedescriptors dengue, health and health promotion. Results: All proposed actions were effective in combating dengue, as theyimproved the management and analysis of information systems, as well as helped decreasingdengue transmission.In addition, these actionsbolstered the adoption of the Quick Survey of Infestation Index by Aedes (LIRAa) as a guiding basis for educational actions in health and social mobilization. Conclusion: The methods described in this study to combat and prevent dengue are nothing more than policies already in place in the primary health care system.These actionsproved to be successful, thus meeting the objective of the present study.
